DIVINE LEGS SUPPORTS ATHENA CHRISTMAS FUND RAISER

Charity Fatigue?

Opportunities to support good causes are abundant throughout the year and not least at Christmas and it can be easy to become fatigued by the constant “ask” for charity donations to causes that means little directly to you and from complete strangers – I think many small business owners will understand this feeling.  It was quite different when I received a call from Charmaine Mace, the Regional Director of the Athena Network (the UK’s leading ladies business network) in Richmond.  First of all she was calling me about something unrelated and then was almost apologetic in the asking, as if understanding that she probably wasn’t the first to make this proposition.

As a new business just finding my feet and starting to get some recognition in the market, it would have been very easy to pass.  Charmaine’s understanding of what it’s like to be a woman starting small business instantly built a rapport – and the good causes being close to my own heart made it a pleasure to donate over £200 worth of tights and stay-ups from the Divine Legs collection (including brands item m6 and Charnos).

Girls Just Want to Have Fun!

On 8th December 2016 the good ladies of the local Athena groups gathered for one evening event instead of their usual 4 separate lunch meetings and the party had a greater purpose with the Christmas celebration providing the ideal opportunity for the all-important fund raising!

Generously many of the ladies donated a wide selection of amazing prizes for an on-line auction with proceeds going towards two wonderful causes.  £1600 was raised on the night, with half donated to "Pathways Through Dementia", and the other half supports a local member who has cancer to enable her to do something special with her young son.

 Red Carpet Glamour

In a fun packed evening with lots of glamour and glitz, and this seasons on-trend glitter and metallic on show.  The 47 ladies who attended the dinner submitted 139 bids for the 29 individual lots – with some prizes being very hotly contested.  A count down to the close of the auction was shown at the dinner to encourage any last-minute bids while the Richmond Gate Hotel served the traditional Christmas dinner.  A much better atmosphere than your usual e-bay count down (if you have ever experienced that!).

A wonderful night of camaraderie and celebration for the achievements in 2016 was rounded off with the award of certificates to Committee members and festivities continued until late in the evening.

2017 will be welcomed with some very good karma as a result - thanks Ladies!
